Photography has been a passion of mine going on 7 years now. Even though I have spent years perfecting my craft I am always going to be growing and learning. I can only imagine the second you stop learning the second your work becomes stale. Sometimes I wonder if I will be able to be a wedding photographer 15 years from now. Will I be relevant? Will I be too old? But then I think about my favorite photographers (jose villa, samm blake, we are the rhodes, sue bryce, julie paisley… to name a few), the people who have shaped the way I work, and they have all been in the photography business for 15+ years. I think if we accept the fact that we have never actually perfected our craft, that will never be done learning, then we can be the people who stick around for the long haul.
I say all of that because I just photographed an event where a bunch of creatives came together to learn and grow and I think that’s really necessary in this industry.
I photographed The Bloom Workshop at Greencrest Manor in Battle Creek, MI where Ashley & Michaela (Co-Founders) taught exactly how to dream up, execute, and shoot or style an inspiration shoot. I was blown away by all of the hard work that the team of insanely creative vendors put together to create three separate styled shoots for the attendee’s to photograph. It was such a great experience to work with everyone at the workshop and share my photography knowledge at the Q&A panel.
I love connecting with other creatives and embracing community over competition… We’re all in this together, right?
