It should come as no surprise that Michigan weather has been unpredictable this wedding season. It’s hard to believe that June has almost ended and yet most days are filled with rain from morning to evening. Fortunately, Susie and I had a few back up plans for photo locations just in case it was raining. But once I walked into Cheney Place (and especially when I saw the second floor) I knew that come rain or shine we wouldn’t be heading to any alternate locations. I had shot Cheney Place a few years ago and immediately it became one of my favorite venues. The Cheney Place continues to go above and beyond expectations as their design expertise is apparent in every detail. It was an absolute dream to photograph. If you are getting married here, please, let’s chat and work together to make the magic happen all over again for your special day.
What was the most memorable moment of your day?
Before the ceremony at the church, we were able to sneak a few minutes together away from everyone. We prayed for each other and over our marriage, that God would bless our commitment to each other and help us become the husband and wife that the other person needed.
Any advice for future Bride/Grooms?
It’s going to take more time than you anticipate, or have, to talk to all the people who have come to celebrate with you. However, it is completely worth taking the time to do so. We decided to mingle with our guests during cocktail hour instead of hiding away or taking more pictures, and it was a lovely time to talk with our families and friends.
Most Funny memory from your wedding day?
Susie: The groomsmen snuck in party horns to the wedding ceremony. After our pastor announced us as Mr. and Mrs. Travis Wesseldyke, they pulled them out and simultaneously sounded them!
Travis: A few of the groomsmen brought along a nerf gun arsenal to help occupy our time in the morning before pictures. The battle took place in the Groom’s Room and on the 1st floor of the Cheney place while vendors were setting up.
If you could do it all over again would you change anything?
Bring home a tupperware of desserts!
Where did you go on your honeymoon?
Pacific Grove and San Francisco, California
Reception Venue: The Cheney Place
